Cuss Control

Faced
with an epidemic of profanity, our country is in need of practical suggestions
for breaking a habit that even has ordinary citizens unwittingly contributing to
the decline of civility and good manners.
Author
James V. O'Connor offers cures for negative words and attitudes in his book,
CUSS CONTROL, the Complete Book on How to Curb Your Cursing, available in April
from Three Rivers Press, a division of Random House.
"Millions
of Americans who use foul language realize that they should speak with more
intelligence and maturity but don't make the effort, believing that profanity is
commonly accepted," says O'Connor, a public relations executive who has
received national attention for his efforts to restore civility to our language.
"When they recognize that cursing offends more people than they think and
damages the perceptions that others have of them, the challenge is to break that
habit. It takes some work, but will increase their self‑esteem, improve
their relationships, and bring them peace of mind."
O'Connor doesn't moralize or preach an end to swearing, but suggests we control
when and where we swear. With humor, insightful interviews and practical advice,
he convinces even chronic cursers that there are far more effective ways to
communicate.
Soon
after O'Connor founded the Cuss Control Academy in August 1998, the media calls
came pouring in! Within a year, he had appeared on the Oprah Winfrey Show, TV
news programs from New York to California, and more than 200 radio stations.
More than 40 articles have appeared in publications ranging from Time and
Newsday to the National Enquirer and Maxim.
The
pre-publication promotion continues, raising awareness as well as the question:
What do we do about it? CUSS CONTROL has the answers!
